Google DevFest's Top Three Sessions for GRC Engineers

AI Security, Agent Evaluation, and Better Building Decisions

The Atlanta chapter’s three session picks for GRC engineers at DevFest Atlanta, plus a beginner recommendation, at Morehouse College October 30–31.

DevFest sounds like a conference for developers. But if you work in cybersecurity, governance, risk, or compliance, there's plenty here for you, too. Our ATL DevCon experience reinforced how much we can learn by joining the conversations where technology gets built.

GDG Atlanta is bringing DevFest to Morehouse College, one of Atlanta's best-known historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), on October 30–31. For GRC engineers, we'd start with these three sessions.

Build Security Into the Product

Adaora Onwumelu's The Cybersecurity Layer Every AI Builder Needs covers identity, data access, permissions, human oversight, and monitoring.

GRC engineers can help shape those decisions early. Listen for questions you can bring back to your team: what can the AI access, what can it change, and who approves those actions?

Ask for Evidence Before Trusting an Agent

Tejas Pravinbhai Patel's Can You Trust Your AI Agent? focuses on evaluating AI agents, systems that can use tools and take actions, including testing failures and setting safer boundaries.

A successful demo leaves plenty of questions unanswered. We'd listen for ways to turn “it seems to work” into repeatable checks and useful evidence.

Get Better at Defining What You Want Built

Patrick Bentley's Design Is the New Code explores specifications and design documents as AI takes on more implementation work.

That connects directly to our chapter's build-first approach. Whether you're automating evidence collection or building a portfolio project, you still need to explain the problem, define acceptable behavior, and judge the result.

Honorable Mention: New to Cybersecurity?

Aaron Butler's Breaking Into Cybersecurity covers career paths, skills, certifications, and gaining experience. If you're still figuring out where you fit, bring questions about how your existing background could translate into the field.
