The GRC Engineering Club is one year old today. Happy anniversary to the people who looked at how we do this work and decided we could build something better together.
Anyone who has chased the same evidence three times or inherited a spreadsheet held together by hope understands the appeal. We want assurance built into the way systems run, with less time spent manually proving the same things over and over. Getting there takes practice, technical skills, and people willing to share what they are figuring out.
That is what makes this first year worth celebrating. Across the club, practitioners are giving each other places to learn, build, ask questions, and try again. Atlanta gets to be part of that.
A community you can learn with
The GRC Engineering Club has brought together hands-on labs, practitioner-built tools, training, certifications, and conversations about doing the work. Those resources matter. So does having someone to ask when the tutorial makes perfect sense right up until your screen does something completely different.
Learning in public takes some nerve. Sharing an unfinished project or admitting you do not understand a term can feel harder than it should. Every person who answers without making someone feel small makes it easier for the next person to participate.
If you have shared something you built, asked a question in Slack, or helped another member get unstuck, you helped make this first year happen. You do not need a finished portfolio to have contributed.
What we are building in Atlanta
Our job as the Atlanta chapter is to bring that spirit closer to home. We want people to find each other, learn together, and have somewhere to bring both their experience and their beginner questions. Being new should not require an apology.
We have been building a public home for that work here at Assure the A. The Atlanta Field Guide helps people get oriented. Our Updates document chapter activity, explain useful concepts, and invite people to participate. The Terms Explorer gives learners somewhere to look up the vocabulary without opening twelve more tabs. Through Secure the South, we are also making room for collaboration with nearby chapters.
There is still work to do, and we want more people involved in doing it. Chapter participation is free, with paid membership in the broader club handled separately. We want people to understand their options and feel welcome while they decide how they want to participate.
Bring that energy into year two
For Atlanta, the next year means continuing to turn useful club conversations into approachable lessons, making our gatherings worth showing up for, and helping more members take ownership of the work. Events, membership, practitioner development, and telling the chapter's story all need people who care enough to help.
You can start small. Share a resource with a sentence about why it helped. Show someone what you built, including the part that broke. Offer to help with one piece of an event. Those contributions give someone else a reason to come back.
