State of the A: Meet the Atlanta Chapter

Meet chapter leadership, ask questions, and see what we're building next

Join the Atlanta GRC Engineering Club for State of the A on October 10. Meet chapter leadership, learn what the Atlanta chapter is building, and bring your questions.

Atlanta's GRC Engineering community has been taking shape through events, resources, conversations, and a growing group of people willing to help build it. State of the A is our chance to bring that work together and make it easier to see where you fit.

Join us Saturday, October 10 at 10:00 AM ET for the Atlanta chapter kickoff. The event is virtual and free to attend.

Most importantly, this is a chance to meet the people helping lead the Atlanta chapter and ask questions directly. If you have been following from the sidelines, are brand new to GRC, or have been wondering what GRC Engineering actually looks like in practice, bring those questions with you.

What We'll Talk About

We will introduce the chapter leadership team, talk about why we are building a local GRC Engineering community in Atlanta, revisit our mission, and share some of what is coming next.

There will also be plenty of room for Q&A. We want this to feel less like a presentation and more like an open door into the chapter.

You do not need to arrive knowing the terminology, having a certification, or already working in a GRC role. If you are curious about governance, risk, compliance, cybersecurity, privacy, audit, AI governance, or the technology changing those fields, you have a reason to join the conversation.

Why Participate

A website can tell you what the chapter does. State of the A gives you a chance to meet the people doing it.

You can ask chapter leaders where to start, how to get involved, what we mean when we talk about GRC Engineering, what membership includes, or what kinds of events and projects we want to build in Atlanta. You can also tell us what would make the chapter useful to you.

That last part matters. A local chapter gets better when members help shape it.

If you have been looking for a low-pressure way to introduce yourself, meet the leadership team, and figure out whether this community is for you, this is a good place to start.

Questions You Can Bring With You

These are a few of the questions we already expect to hear. Open any question for a quick answer, then bring the follow-up to State of the A.

I'm new to GRC. Where do I start?

Start with the basics and give yourself permission not to know everything at once. GRC covers a lot of ground. Our Atlanta Field Guide is designed to help newer practitioners understand the community, the discipline, and some useful learning paths.

State of the A is also a good starting point. Meet other practitioners, tell us what you are trying to learn, and ask us where we would begin.

What is GRC Engineering?

GRC Engineering applies engineering practices to make controls testable, observable, repeatable, and, where practical, executable.

In plain language, it means looking for ways to make GRC work more measurable, repeatable, and automated instead of relying only on documents, screenshots, spreadsheets, and manual checklists. You do not need to be a software engineer to start learning how that works.

Is the cost of official chapter membership worth it?

Anyone may attend Atlanta chapter events. Official chapter membership is different: chapter members are active paid GRC Engineering Club members who join the Atlanta roster.

Whether that is worth it depends on what you want from the broader Club. Paid membership provides access to additional Club learning, events, labs, certifications, and other member resources, while also counting toward Atlanta's official chapter status.

If you are unsure, State of the A is a good place to ask us about the experience before deciding.

Do I need to be technical to participate?

No. GRC Engineering encourages practitioners to understand systems, automation, evidence, and how technology can improve GRC work, but you do not need to arrive as a programmer.

Curiosity is enough to start. We are building opportunities for people to learn alongside one another.

How can I get involved with the Atlanta chapter?

Show up first. Meet people, ask questions, share what you are learning, and tell us what you would like to help build.

From there, you can join the official Atlanta roster, participate in events and projects, contribute your expertise, or explore a volunteer leadership role. Our Contribute page lays out several ways to get involved.
